Active-Semi Releases 160V Integrated Motor Controller and Driver for High-Voltage Battery Powered BLDC Applications
The user-programmable PAC5232 IC along with firmware IP enables high-voltage battery-powered BLDC applications to reduce time-to-market using sensored Trapezoidal, sensorless BEMF or sensorless Field-Oriented Control (FOC) with the same product.
The PAC5232 provides an unmatched level of integration for user-programmable control and drive of BLDC motors. This includes a 50MHz 32-bit ARM© Cortex®-M0 with 32kB of FLASH and 8kB of SRAM; 180V/2A gate drivers for either MOSFET or IGBT-based inverters; a 160V DC/DC controller and 5V DC/DC converter for powering the inverter and system peripherals; and integrated signal conditioning peripherals for protection and control such as Differential Programmable Gain Amplifiers (PGA), Single-ended PGA, DACs that enable features such as Cycle-by-cycle hardware current limit, over-current, over-voltage and under-voltage hardware safety features.
“The PAC5232‘s high level of integration including 180V gate drivers for 3-phase control, a 160V Buck DC/DC controller, configurable analog front-end, embedded ARM© Cortex®-M0 core coupled with Active-Semi’s Total Hibernate Mode™ and other patented features, delivers the smallest high-voltage system design at the highest system efficiency,” says David Briggs, Vice-President and General Manager at Active-Semi. "We are excited about the rapidly expanding customer base that is now ramping into production with PAC5232.
In a small 8mm x 8mm QFN package, the PAC5232 IC includes many features for added customer value. Battery-powered applications up to 160V can use the onboard Buck DC/DC controller thereby reducing system BOM, PCB size and cost. In addition, the four onboard LDOs further simplify system power management. These sophisticated and highly configurable functions make PAC5232 an ideal single-IC solution.
The PAC5232EVK extend the family of evaluation kits (EVKs) to enable fast prototyping with the PAC5232 IC. Along with Active-Semi's motor control firmware and IP library, the PAC5232 will simplify system development with sensored and sensorless FOC and sensorless trapezoidal motor control applications for high-voltage battery powered applications.
