MOST, ISTC jointly host workshop on new plasma technology
The workshop, organized by the Sungkyunkwan University under the sponsorship of the Korea Science and Engineering Foundation and the Small Business Coporation of Cheolwol-gun, Kangwon Province, aims to introduce advanced Russian science and technology to South Korea.
It is also designed to establish an effective collaboration and mutually beneficial relationship with Russia and CIS countries including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
Some 100 South Korean experts including CEOs and researchers from the industry, academy and research and development (R&D) institutions will participate, focusing their discussions on functional thin film and coatings, a new plasma technology.
Six lectures to be given by the Russian specialists include “catalyst deposition on the surface of proton exchange membranes,” “plasma surface treatment of bio implant components,” “plasma-based polymer cleaning and coating and ecological protective coatings on metallic” and “nonmetallic surfaces by low temperature plasma.”
Each lecture is to be followed by individual technical meetings and consultations with attendees.
In particular, introduction of the programs implemented by the ISTC will provide participants with an opportunity to approach the advanced science and technology of the Russia Federation and other CIS countries.
The ISTC was set up by the U.S., Japan, the European Union and Russia in November 1992 as a nonproliferation program to peacefully use the talent of the Russian scientists who developed munitions in former USSR.
South Korea joined ISTC in 1997 and has been helping it explore new technologies since 1998, while finding opportunities for cooperative R&D with CIS scientists through its partner program.
