Bluetooth SIG Announces Record Growth in South Korean Device Qualifications Spurred by Support from LG Electronics, Samsung

- South Korean Companies Lead Global Expansion of Bluetooth Product Shipments to Over Three Billion in 2014

서울--(뉴스와이어)--A continuing string of product introductions from South Korean electronics manufacturers has led to record growth in product shipments from the country, the Bluetooth SIG announced today. South Korea leads all other countries in the number of qualified Bluetooth design listings certified by the SIG. In the latest reporting period, fully 25% of all qualified Bluetooth product designs came from South Korean companies.

“The rapid growth of Bluetooth products we are currently seeing is really just the beginning,” said Suke Jawanda, Bluetooth SIG CMO. “It’s a little-known fact that the strong commitment to Bluetooth by leading South Korean companies like LG Electronics, the newest member on our Board of Directors, and Samsung Electronics is driving worldwide production and distribution of Bluetooth and the ultra power-efficient Bluetooth Smart technology. In fact, of our approximately 20,000 member companies around the world, Samsung and LG are the two highest producers of Bluetooth products as measured by qualified Bluetooth designs listed with the SIG.”

Based on record Bluetooth and Bluetooth Smart growth trends by South Korean companies, the Bluetooth SIG fully expects continued growth in the consumer electronics market, along with accelerating expansion in wearables, sports and fitness, home automation, home entertainment, automotive, health and medical markets.

Research firm ABI Research, Inc. has projected that approximately 2.5 billion Bluetooth enabled products will ship in 2013. That annual shipment number is expected to nearly double to 4.5 billion annual shipments by 2018. In total, some 10 billion Bluetooth enabled products have been shipped since the technology’s inception. ABI projects that in the next five years, the cumulative shipment figure will triple to 30 billion, with much of that expansion the result of increasing product shipments from South Korean companies.
