GM Korea Reports Highest First Half Domestic Sales in 9 Years
Exports of complete vehicles by GM Korea were up 18.2 percent in June to 64,483 vehicles from 54,566 vehicles exported in the previous month. GM Korea also exported 135,327 complete knockdown (CKD) kits of parts and components to be assembled into vehicles.
"With strong consumer demand in Korea for our many competitive products, June was another outstanding month for us,” said Ankush Arora, GM Korea Vice President of Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing. “It capped our most successful first half of the year in the domestic market since 2003.”
In the first six months of 2012, GM Korea’s domestic sales increased 3.5 percent on an annual basis to 71,506 vehicles from 69,071 vehicles in the first six months of 2011.
Total vehicle sales in the first half of 2012 slightly decreased 1.1 percent year on year to 409,150 vehicles. First half exports declined 2.0 percent to 337,644 vehicles from 344,465 vehicles exported in the same period last year. In addition, GM Korea exported 675,940 CKD products in the first six months of 2012.
Arora said, “We expect our sales in Korea to continue growing, enabling us to reach our sales target and achieve double-digit market share in the domestic market for the year as a whole. In the second half, consumers will continue to benefit from innovative aftersales service programs such as 3-5-7 Chevy Care and aggressive marketing programs like the Love Summer Festival comprising of Level-up & Matiz CVT exchange program.”
