WONJU--(Korea Newswire)--BOSUNGMEDITECH CO., LTD. (President Yuncheol Shin, www.bsmeditech.com), a company specialized in manufacturing lancets and lancing devices, has developed ‘SafeLan-Pro’ upgraded with safety and hygiene.

‘SafeLan-Pro’ is a brand-new lancet which mainly functions to prevent a reuse of lancets. Therefore, this device is able to prevent a secondary infection caused by a reuse as well as a needle stick injury from careless usage. ‘SafeLan-Pro’ features easy and safe combining and detaching of units.

FDA and CDC recommended that ‘a finger stick device should never be used for more than one person even though sterile lancets are used each time.’ However, it is reported that finger stick devices are used on multiple patients in obtaining capillary blood samples. It is also found that a number of patients are sharing their finger stick and point-of-care (POC) blood testing devices with other people.

In that case, there are high risks of secondary infections by blood. Besides, it is hard to prevent blood-borne infections by changing the single needle since there may remain blood-borne pathogens on the cap or other parts. Replacing the lancet alone does not eliminate this risk.

In order to prevent secondary infections, ‘SafeLan-Pro’ is designed not to work when a used needle is not changed to a new needle. It is also safe from needle stick injury when one changes lancet since the needle is covered by a needle protection tip. No risks of accidental needle stick injury associated with recapping.

Unlike existing blood lancing devices which have to be changed through complex process, ‘SafeLan-Pro’ is easy to combine and detach by using ‘SafeLan’, an united type of needle combining a protective cap and tip. Also, it is convenient to use because when a cap combines with the unit, the protective sterilized tip is automatically removed.
