Citibank Korea, 2011 Citi-KOSBI Women Entrepreneur Awards
The Awards, established in 2008 to boost morale of business women running SMEs and share best practices, now head into its 4th year.
The 4th Citi-KOSBI Women Entrepreneur Awards grant awards in 3 categories including Entrepreneurship, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Human Resources Management and no winner was named in Eco-friendly Management category this year, as companies applied failed to meet screening criteria. Choong-Sik Im, Deputy Div. Head of Small and Medium Sized Business Administration and Chairperson Jeon Soo-Hye from Korean Women Enterprise Association attended the awards ceremony and delivered remarks to congratulate the winners who are recognized as the new leaders of the Korean economy.
President Ji-Jong Chang of KOSBI mentioned in his remarks, “Amid the growing uncertainties in the business environment that are posing enormous challenges to businesses, women entrepreneurs in Korea were resilient and worked hard to grow their businesses and our economy as a whole.” CEO Yung-Ku Ha of Citibank Korea encouraged women business leaders and said, “Women workforce is regarded as key to the future growth of the Korean economy, and I am confident that the business environment will become more favorable to women entrepreneurs sometime soon.”
Here are the profiles of 2011 Citi-KOSBI Women Entrepreneur Awards winners:
- Entrepreneurship: Gyodong Traditional Food (CEO Young-Sook Shim)
: The company successfully transformed the home-made traditional Korean sweets “Hangwa” into an industry. Under its brand Gyodong Hangwa, Its annual sales revenues recorded 10 billion won, positioning itself as No. 1 hangwa maker in Korea. The company has stuck to its traditional way of making hangwa for 30 years and uses local produce only, with an aim of making hangwa loved by people across the globe. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry granted Gyodong with “No.204 quality certification of traditional food.”
- CSR : Nail Ten Academy (CEO Mi-Sun Lee)
: Started in 1998 as a nail art training institute. Based on the company’s goal of teaching the values of sharing with others in addition to skills, it has held various volunteering events in facilities for the disabled or community center for the elderly since 2004 where its students and like-minded people donated their talents. It is recognized as a training institute that intends to grow with the community it belongs to.
- Human Resource Manamgenet : Dain System (CEO Soon-Im Jung)
: Dain System manufactures machinery like industrial strap master (packing robot binding machine) and roll packing machine. It contributed to creating jobs by hiring graduates from colleges in the community such as Chunnam Techno College as part of industry-academia cooperation programs and continues to offer trainings to its engineers. Spending over 15% in R&D investment, its technology is recognized by overseas market, allowing the company to achieve approximately 8 million USD in export.
