Citigroup Korea employees volunteer for “5 million Baffor free meals with 50 million Korean people” event
Every May 2nd, Dail Community holds “Day of Five Loaves and Two Fish” festival with the volunteering and donations of citizens. This year, in particular, celebrates an aggregate total of 5 million free meals served since the start of Baffor sharing movement initiated by Pastor Choi of Dail Community. As many as 2,500 people including neighbors who are the beneficiaries of Baffor campaign and volunteers participated in the event, where they mixed ingredients of bibimbap in a huge bowl and shared it together as the food is a metaphor of unity and harmony across generations regardless of wealth or social status.
Pastor Choi Il-Do of Dail Community said, “Since Baffor sharing movement started 23 years ago, the number of free meals served to our needy neighborhood at home and abroad has mounted to 5 million. Today, in particular, I would like to show my deep gratitude to the strong support of Citigroup Korea.” “A bowl of warm white rice gives life. I would like to make 365 Baffor relay campaign as a nationwide initiative where all Korean citizens can engage in to practice the sprite of giving and sharing.”
Meanwhile, Citigroup Korea donated 24,000 kg of rice to Dail Community last February which could be served to 120,000 starving people, and sponsored 25 million won for today’s event.
