Three Craft and Design-Related Expos to Be Held Simultaneously in Seoul

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA--(뉴스와이어)--Three international events that widely publicize the convergence of Korea‘s craft with design under the theme of ’Craft+Design, Communications and Harmony' will be held in Seoul.

Hosted by four ministries, including the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, ‘Public Design Expo 2010,’ ‘Craft Trend Fair 2010,’ and ‘Korea, the Style 2010’ will be held for 5 days, December 15-19, simultaneously at the COEX in Seoul organized by Korea Craft and Design Foundation and COEX.

The Public Design Expo 2010 will feature a variety of public design activities of five major groups of players, including government, citizens, NGOs, industry, and designers. The expo primarily aims at sharing the core value of public design and presenting a sustainable vision under the theme of ‘Design for Better Life by Caring and Invigorating Altogether.’ It will highlight a new direction and vision of public design using visual media. Notably, organizers will minimize exhibition wastes by using the least interior materials and recycling removable fittings.

As its fifth annual event, Craft Trend Fair 2010 will present the future of Korea‘s crafts under the theme of ’Next Craftsmanship-Change from Succession to Application.‘ The ’2010 Theme Exhibition‘ of the Fair will convey the craftsmanship of craftsmen on a daily basis and the sustainable application of crafts, the encounter between craftsmanship and modern life, and the countless stories involved with it. The specially designed exhibition, ’Craft Material Lab,‘ and invitational show, ’Exhibition of 20 Craftsmen of Korea‘s Mother-of-pearl and Lacquerware,’ will display the depth and diversity of Korea's craft works.

Under the theme of ‘Korean Imagination,’ ‘Korea, the Style 2010’ will feature Korean alphabet, costumes, foods, papers, traditional houses and the music of Korea. With six stories of reinterpreting and using traditional culture in a modern way, 200 booths of Korean-style houses will be built using wooden pillars, and these construction materials will be reused after the expo. It will also present colorful attractions through various exhibitions and side events.

As they are closely interrelated, these three major events are expected to generate business opportunities by inducing traditional and modern creative ideas and building collaborative relations between related industries by accelerating exchanges between craft and design.
