Promoting solar-powered housing

Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--On March 20, the Korean government agreed to provide financial support to re-design 2,156 houses as solar-powered buildings across the nation this year as part of efforts to promote new and renewable energy resources. The plan will build houses that generate 324kWh per month.

According to the plan, house owners will be eligible for 70% of the construction costs (19.74 million won out of 28.2 million won). Applicants will receive the financial support once the construction is completed. The construction will be carried out by one of the government-designated construction companies.

The government has allocated 42.6 billion won for the project this year.

Renovating existing houses to have solar-power first started in 2004. Last year, 907 houses were renovated. The government aims to support the construction of more than 100,000 solar-powered homes by 2012.
