First Asian conference to discuss technology transfer

Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--International technology experts and business people gathered in Seoul to explore ways to promote technology transfer and commercialization among Asian companies on March 15, 2006. Technology transfer refers to when a company, research institute or school sells or licenses their technology to another party.

The Asia Conference on Technology Transfer 2006 is the first of its kind in the region. Until now, technology transfer conferences had been held mainly in the U.S. and E.U.

For three days, participants will discuss technology transfer and evaluation, and then explore ways to commercialize the technologies.

In an opening speech, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Energy Chung Sye Kyun stressed the need for technological paradigm changes around the world including R&D outsourcing. He cited examples of world-renowned multinationals including P&G, Cisco Systems, and Microsoft as they search for new and viable ways to attain the latest technology.

To respond to the changing global business environment, the Korean government has encouraged companies to not only enhance research and development efforts but also outsource and commercialize technologies.

Some 500 participants included prominent speakers such as Kenan Sahin (CEO of technology development firm TIAX LLC and former professor at MIT and Harvard University), technology professionals, and lawyers from 20 countries including the U.S., China, and the U.K.
