Digital exports rise in February

Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--Korea’s exports of electronic devices increased 14.2% year-on-year to USD $8.44 billion in February of 2006 while imports reached $4.67 billion, an increase of 22.9% from a year ago. In all, the country’s digital products recorded a trade surplus of $3.77 billion in February this year.

The growth in exports of digital products was mostly driven by electronic parts such as flat display panels and semiconductors.

Overseas sales of semiconductors and digital TVs increased by 14.9% to $2.59 billion and by 5.2% to $0.16 billion, respectively. By contrast, sales of mobile phones fell by 4.7% to $1.37 billion.

By country, outbound shipments to China were up by 13% year-on-year to $1.68 billion, and the E.U. by 1.9% to $1.48 billion. However, sales to the U.S. declined by16.3% to $1.05 billion in February.

Meanwhile, imports of digital products climbed by 22.9% to $4.67 billion in February. The increase in imports was seen in computers (34%), semiconductors (28.1%), and domestic electric appliances (14.4%).

In all, the country’s digital products recorded a trade surplus of $3.77billion in February, an increase of 5% compared to the previous year. Trade in electrical appliances with China and the U.S. posted a surplus of $610 million and $280 million, respectively.
