GM Daewoo Employees Make Kimchi for Neighbors in Need

서울--(뉴스와이어)--The GM Daewoo Employee Foundation, a social welfare organization established by the employees of GM Daewoo Auto & Technology (GM Daewoo), hosted the “Kimchi-Making of Love” event today at the company’s Bupyeong headquarters.

About 250 local and foreign employees, including GM Daewoo President and CEO Mike Arcamone, made 10 tons of kimchi for their neighbors in need. The kimchi was delivered to 39 social welfare facilities, including Happy Home, Yerimwon, and the Association of the Incheon Welfare Institutes for the Disabled.

Arcamone said, “It was a pleasure to see so many employees volunteering their time to help those in need. This annual activity is part of GM Daewoo’s long-term commitment to giving back to the local community, which has given so much to our company.”

In-Sick Hong, Chairman of the Association of the Incheon Welfare Institutes for the Disabled, said: “Thanks to GM Daewoo, many people will not have to worry about buying kimchi for the winter. The volunteer spirit that is alive in GM Daewoo employees is a model for corporate responsibility.”

The GM Daewoo Employee Foundation has been making kimchi, a staple food in Korea, every year since the organization’s establishment in 2005. Including this year, more than 52 tons of kimchi have been produced by GM Daewoo volunteers and given to those in need.

The GM Daewoo Employee Foundation was created to support those in need. Among its many contributions, it has provided medical expense support, organized joint wedding ceremonies, and sponsored free concerts. In addition, it has supported the repair of welfare facilities, the donation of goods, and the providing of emergency relief.
